September Julep Maven

Classic With a Twist

Its been a few months since I have actually kept a Julep box and not skipped. I haven't felt the need for any new nail polishes and none of the make up has stood out to me over the last couple of months.  For some reason though this month just seemed like a good time to pick the subscription back up again. What really drew me in was the beautiful deep purple lipstick, I didn't own anything like it and had the sudden urge to add it to my collection!

Overall I was really pleased with this months box! Be sure and check out my video below for more details on what came in my September Julep Maven.

Pumpkin Enzyme Mask

Fall is officially here which means an abundance of plaid, fur vests, oversized scarves, boots and pumpkin everything! Going along with the pumpkin theme I figure what better day than the first official day of fall to talk about the Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask.

This is an exfoliating treatment  that helps make dull congested skin look its best.  Pumpkin  enzymes and AHAs help  remove dry dead skin to reveal smother softer skin. To use apply a thin layer on clean skin and massage in circular motions to activate the micro beads that help with the exfoliation process.

Let sit on your skin for 3-7 minutes and then rinse off. You will feel a little stinging of your skin as the AHA and enzymes work. If you have sensitive skin leave the mask on for a shorter amount of time.

This mask definitely smells like pumpkin and the first time I used it I almost felt like I was slathering pumpkin pie mix on my face. If smells don't bother you then I definitely suggest trying this mask out! It left my skin looking and feeling amazing. This is one of Peter Thomas Roth's most popular masks and you can pick it up anywhere his products are sold. It will run you $58.

Korres Yoghurt Cream Cleanser

Recently I have been trying another new to me cleanser and it unfortunately tends to burn my eyes when washing my entire face (bummer I know!) and always left so much eye makeup no matter how vigorously I scrubbed. Naturally I had been keeping my eye out for a better cleanser when I came across this one.

I was first introduced to the Greek beauty brand Korres  back when I was in college when they first came out in Sephora stores. I had tested a few of their cosmetics but only recently have ventured more into the brands skincare line which is more their bread and butter.

I took the gamble and ordered it after hearing that it gently cleansed and removed every trace of makeup from your face.  It claimed to be a cream to foam formula that was soap free and contained no petroleum, parabans or silicones. All ideal things when it comes to skincare.

After using this a few times I have to say how impressed I am with it! There are several cleansers that claim to take off all your makeup with ease but often times they don't do quite as well as you might like. This cleanser really does get everything off with out having to rub and scrub your face. Its a rich and creamy texture that leaves your skin clean with out feeling dried out or tight.

If you are a lazy girl like me and hate the process of removing your make up I suggest trying this cleanser out. It will make your life that much easier at the end of a long day I promise! Retail on this cleanser is $26.

Easy Cucumber Salad

This recipe has been my favorite to make all summer long. When I say favorite I mean that I make it at least once a week! The great part about this recipe is how simple and easy it is to make! Whether your hosting a party and need a side dish or just want something healthy to eat during the week this recipe is great one to have on hand.

What you will need:

1 English Cucumber
Cherry Tomatoes (or something similar)
Avocado
Red Wine Vinegar
Olive Oil
Parsley (Fresh is best but use what you have on hand)
Salt & Pepper

To start peel your cucumber and then cut your cucumber, tomato and avocado into bit size pieces. I typically try to cut everything in varying sizes as it is more pleasing to the eye to have variety.( If your making this for yourself don't worry about it!)

Put it all in a bowl and add about 1/4 a cup red wine vinegar and 1/4 a cup of olive oil. This amount will change based on how much you are making and also your taste. If you really like the tang of red wine vinegar add more of it and less of the olive oil! That is what is great about this recipe there is no real formula just do what suits your taste.

Add a pinch of Salt, Pepper and Parsley. Mix it all together and stick it in the fridge.

You will want to chill your cucumber salad for at least an hour before serving, this will give the flavors time to soak in and develop.

There are several variations on this recipe all over the web, a lot of them call for red onions and I imagine that would be scrumptious as well. Like I said this recipe is extremely easy to make and is a light and refreshing side dish. I hope you enjoy!
