Holiday Gift Guide For Her

Holiday gift guide for her

Gift giving is one of my favorite things to do. I love finding the perfect gift that I know someone will be excited to get. This year I put together a few things I think any "her" in your life would love to receive. I also put together a list of stocking stuffer ideas that are all under the $15 price range (check it out HERE).

1. Flutter Ear Jackets - $32
My newest jewelry obsession are ear jackets. They add a certain element of cool to any outfit and can range from simple designs to more ornate like these from bauble bar.

2. Gold Monogram Mug - $8
What girl doesn't like a good monogram? Whether she is a tea or coffee drinker (maybe she just loves a good hot chocolate!) this mug will be sure to delight. Simple in design and personalized what is not to love.

3. Silk Pillow and Sleeping Mask - $80 and $39
I have been wanting to get my hands on a silk pillow for ages now. Its something that always slips my mind and I never end up purchasing one. It might seem a bit extravagant but a silk pillow has been shown to reduce breakage of hair and fine lines and wrinkles.

4. Zara Flats with Tassels - $50
I am always a fan of a classic flat. The tassels on this pair from Zara kicks the classic black flat up a notch.

5. Notebooks - $14
I have a confession, I am a list writer. Thats right even if I have already done something I still like to add it on a list. Checking things off just gives me a little satisfaction and who wouldn't want to keep track of things in a pretty little notebook.

6. Peter Thomas Roth 24k Gold Mask - $80
For the girl that is skincare obsessed a luxurious mask made with pure gold will definitely impress. In general Peter Thomas Roth is known for his amazing masks. I own several of them and use them weekly. This gold mask is made with pure 24k gold and helps to tighten/firm your skin.

7. Lorac 20th Anniversary Alter Ego Lip Set - $75
Of course the girl who is Makeup obsessed will love this anniversary set from Lorac Cosmetics. $75 for the entire collection plus two shades that are exclusive to this set is a total steal. Retail value for this set is $310!

8. Face Paint The Story of Makeup by Lisa Eldridge  - $19
Lisa Eldridge is my makeup idol, probably the classiest YouTube guru. She is THE makeup artist to the stars and has done an endless amount of magazine spreads. Her first book Face Paint is more than just pretty makeup it is the history of how makeup came to be what it is today. This would be the perfect gift for any makeup loving history buff.

November Favorites

I feel like every year the Holiday season seems to approach out of no where. Weren't we just soaking in the summer sun floating the river? Living in shorts and tank tops?  Weren't we just complaining about the unbearable Houston heat and humidity?

Needless to say with the cooler months and holiday season in full affect the products I reach for most have changed up a bit. This month I have a body serum that seems to be wonders for my skin, a luxurious lip balm and gloss, the best hair product I have found to date and a few other products too!

I hope you enjoy and be sure to tell me your favorite products from November!

Benefit Box O Powder

A couple months back I hauled these blushes (see the video here) after finding them on HSN for a crazy good deal. Years ago I owned Benefits Hoola bronzer and loved it but never tried any of the other blushes in the Box O Powder line. Overall I am a fan of these powder, they are smooth and easy to blend out and I find that they last well through out the day.

Have you ever tried any of Benefit's blushes? Which is your favorite?!

Dandelion: This is a pale-pink that is marketed  as a highlight. I would definitely not call this a highlight on me though this is more of an angelic pink blush. If you have a darker skin tone you could definitely use this more as a highlight.

Coralista: A warm coral-pink powder that gives you a healthy glow. This is one of my favorites out of the line. I have always been partial to coral blushes and this one is stunning. No glitter here just the perfect amount of shimmer to give warmth to your cheeks.

Hoola: A Matte Bronzer that is the perfect shade of cool brown that makes contouring and shading a breeze.

Hervana: This powder is four shades in one (Lucky Shell, Divine Peach, Heavenly Rose and Berry Delight). Swirl all together and you get a light purplish pink blush that has a satin finish.

Rockateur: A rose gold cheek color that makes an amazing blush topper. If you are looking for a little extra oomph on your cheeks you will love this powder.

Advanced Nourishing Sleeping Facial

Korres Greek Yoghurt

I have found over the years that as a brand Korres tends to deliver quality products with out any of the terrible chemicals and parabens that we often find in the beauty industry. Recently I fell in love with the greek yoghurt sleeping facial mask. This mask is packed full of proteins that help nourish dull dry skin.

For quite a while now I keep to a routine of using a lighter moisturizer during the day and then using a heavy duty moisturizer at night. This might seem extreme but I always use these moisturizing masks nightly. Thats right folks I often find that my skin is really thirsting for hydration by the end of day (yes even though I have oily skin) and I have found after testing many many products that I prefer using these masks in place of typical night cream to get that extra hydration.

The first mask I found to work for me as a nightly moisturizer was the glam glow thirstymud . I still love this mask and definitely recommend trying it out if you haven't. What prompted me to try out this Korres mask was as usual searching Sephora online product reviews (I'm shameless I know).  This bad boy has several hundred reviews and almost a 5 star rating! Its also more affordable than the glam glow version. Although  you do get a tiny bit more with glam glow but 45$ compared to $69 is a bit of a difference when on a budget.

When I wake up in the morning after using the Korres overnight facial my skin feels plumper, my skin tone is even and radiant, and I feel like overall my skin feels more balanced.  Balancing out my skin is really what I love most about this product. No more dry patches in one area while still having an oily t-zone and I notice this balance stays all day. This product manages to solve it all.

Next time your in search for a night moisturizer try this one out! Just remember the key to using overnight masks nightly is to use a bit less product than you would if you were using it as an actual mask.

November Julep Maven

This month was all about switching up your beauty routine. Fall is in full swing and well on its way to Winter which means we tend to change our skincare routines, color palettes, and the textures we reach for in fashion. Two new products debuted this months perfect for this change.

The first is a facial milk that contains 5 different nutrient rich oils. This paraben free lightweight "milk" contains Rosehip Seed Oil, Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil, Argan Oil, and Squalane. Packed with lots of good for your skin ingredients I was really excited to try this one out. The formula is fast obsorbing and could easily be worn on skin during the day prior to make up application. My  preferred method is to apply at night before I put my night cream on.

The second new addition this month is the Matte Metallics line which is an fun and interesting combination. Your nails are shiny because it's metallic but yet it has a matte texture! Really liking both colors that came in this months Classic with a twist box. I do recommend using a good base coat with the matte metallic colors this will help hide any ridges or imperfections on your nails from peaking through your polish.

Jo - Brushed Silver Matte Metallic
Linnea - Vintage Mauve Shimmer

Easy Halloween Look

Half Face Sugar Skull

Im back with another super easy halloween tutorial just in time for all your goolish weekend plans. I copied this look from one my friend found on pinterest (this one to be exact) and it was fairly simple to re-create!

What you will need:
White face paint
Black Face paint
2 or 3 different shades of grey eyeshadow
Black liquid eyeliner
small detail brush
Flat shader brush
Buffing Brush
Makeup sponge

My friend already had makeup on when I did this look so I applied over it but you can start with a bare face. I say this because she already had some bronze eyeshadow that I blended a little bit of grey into it in order to create a cooler toned eye look similar to the inspiration photo. I also added a little thicker liquid eyeliner wing.

To start apply white face paint all over your face, I found using a sponge made the application much easier. Also be aware you might have to apply a couple of layers to get an even white layer over your face. Next I mapped out the area for the eye, nose and stitched up cut. I then filled in the eye and nose with black face paint. Moving on to the cut I took my lightest shade of grey and blending out the line bringing it down towards her jawline. Once I was satisfied with the blending I went back in with a little bit darker grey eyeshadow and continued to blend. I repeated this process till I acheived the desired look.

I went back to working on the eye wanting to work my way down her face when it came to the liquid liner as to not accidentally smudge anything. Around the filled in eye I used the liquid liner to create the sort of abstract squares (I know I am terrible at descriptions). You could really do anything at this point there are a ton of examples out on the web and you can get really creative here. I filled in the squares with white paint then added dots into the squres using the liquid liner .

Moving back to the stitched up cut I used the liquid liner to go over the cut line I had created at the beginning. You want to start at the corner of your mouth and drag it up towards your hairline, the key is to make the line a little wavy and not perfectly straight. Once complete you can move on to adding the stiches by drawing on vertical lines along your cut line and be sure to add dots on either ends of the lines so they look more like "stitches".  You are also going to bring those same stitches down across your lips. And that's the look!  Like I said really easy to create and lots of room for your own creativity to shine through!

Here we are with our finished looks. (you can see more of my look here)

Cheshire Cat

Halloween Look

This year for Halloween I was inspired by this photo I found online of a Cheshire Cat Halloween look, I decided why not retreat it! This was a really easy look to do. The main focus is the large signature smile. I went pretty simple on my eyes just bringing the same purple and pink combo I used on my nose and cheeks through my eye sockets. If you felt really inspired you could do a full on dramatic eye look as well.

To get this look you will only need a couple of things...
1. White and black face paint - I found the water activated kind worked best and this was available at my local party supply store.
2. Black liquid eyeliner - I used the Elf liquid eyeliner.
3. Nude eyeliner pencil.
4. Purple and Pink Eyeshadow - You can do a combination of whatever you may have in your collection, I would stick to matte shadows on the face and nose and you can use shimmer more on your eyes.
5. Hot pink face paint/cream blush/ lipstick.
6. Brushes: Buffing brush, tiny liner brush, and flat shader brush.

I started this look out with my normal foundation/concealer routine. Next I outlined the shape of the mouth using my nude pencil. It was a little difficult at first to get the mouth symmetrical so I would definitely advice tracing it with the nude pencil first. Once outlined I mixed my purple and pink shadows and buffed it around the outside of the traced mouth. I then carried the purple/pink shadows up my nose. Think of it like you were contouring but with purple instead of a natural shade. For the eyes I buffed more of the purple eyeshadow along my crease making sure to connect the shadow along my nose and eyes.

Once  you are satisfied with the intensity of the purple you can move on to filling in your mouth. I found it easier to fill in the entire mouth with white paint and let completely dry prior to applying the black.

To get the look of teeth I outline the mouth with the black paint using a tiny eyeshadow brush and then shaped the teeth. To achieve a cartoonish look be sure and only curve the outer side of the teeth keeping the middle line straight.

For my nose I actually used a hot pink lipstick but you can use what ever is convenient. Apply the hot pink on the tip of your nose and then outline the top of your nostrils with the black paint or liquid eyeliner.

For the whiskers I placed clusters of three dots and happened to have a few stick on glitter whiskers from the halloween store but you could also draw these on as desired.

And thats it! A pretty easy look to create, throw on some cat ears and you have a last minute Halloween look!
